Bottle Tree Park - A Community-based Design workshop by GUI

A day trip to Bottle Tree Park on a Saturday afternoon!

Bottle Tree Park is just a bus stop away from Khatib MRT Station. Do drop by when you are free! Anyway, 3 girls (giggly, lanky and zesty) were exploring the place as it was our first time there. We had a brief introduction by Mr Khoo Peng Beng (From Arc Studio), and also facilitated by Mr Lai Hock and Ms Jia Jia. After which, we were split into 2 groups for the workshop assignment - To analyze the site and propose a design for future development, yet at the same time cultivating an eco cycle too (in other words, to be self-sufficient).

On our way to the site, we had to cross the stream! Oh well, that was for giggly's and zesty's adventurous group!
A panoramic view of the site

 Floating platforms! Approx around.. 1.5m x 3m?

This is where the water comes and goes!

 Demo waterwheel

Cute planting, reminds me of us planting and watering the lemon grass. :)
Oh, take a look, doesn't it feel like the proposed trellis over the car with solar panels? Haha

 Greenhouse farming

Yum yum, tea break! Organic and kampong style food & pastries.
A healthy habit of recycling too!

We were then asked to pen down our first impression/ thoughts of the site. And we were introduced to SWOT analysis. Do you know what SWOT stands for? :P

And we mediated, or say, imagine/ think about the site.

 Next up, MODEL-MAKING!

 Presentation to the crit panel!

 Yay, group photo!

-Back scene- Look at how they maintain the area (meant for workshop/ events, hence not necessarily used very often, i assume)

I shall let the following photos speak for itself :)

The day ended with some exchange of knowledge with the volunteers at the workshop, met some environmentalists, engineers, water specialist, even educators too.

Individual Project Presentation to Architect Bong Recio & Frank Chiu of GK CSI via Skype

The Skype Session with Architect Toni Bong and Tito Frank was a success. Despite a few times where there was dropcalls and some moments of blurred voice, overall each one of us delivered our updates on our projects to Tito Bong and received his useful comments and feedbacks in each of our session.

Our Enchanted Grenzone Visit

Grenzone Visit!!!!
Went visiting to Grenzone to learn more about Solar Power today! It is really impressive how solar power works, and to see all the different variation and types of solar panels! Below are some of Cheery's photo during the visit....

A Flotation device technology. Can it be used for our floating pavilion? :)

Our enchanted elves getting ready!

A Solar Panel has many configurations!

Amy and Jessica taking down notes

Look what I have in my sketchbook! Notes on solar panels!

Carpark solar panels with skylight! Beautiful isn't it?
Definitely learnt alot from the day trip! Now the next step is to see how we could apply what we had learnt in our upcoming design works. Thank you Grenzone for this rare opportunity to learn about this!

With much excitement,
Larry @ Cheery
